Advance holiday
Advance holiday allows new employees to take paid leave in their first year of employment, before they have earned holiday pay. There are no specific rules stating that employees are entitled to advance holiday, it is up to each employer to decide. The rules regarding advance holiday may also be stipulated down in the collective agreement.
The liability for used advance holiday should be written-off after five years. In Visma Lön Smart, the liability is automatically written-off at the end of the holiday year, five years after the employment start date.
Advance holiday is usually used for companies where employees take the holiday days the year after they have been earned. Only employees with a fixed monthly salary
To enter the number of days the employee should receive in advance, follow these steps:
- Select Lön Smart - Employees.
- Select the employee from the list and choose the tab Holiday.

If the employee does not use all their advance days, they will be removed at the end of the holiday year-end closing and the number will be changed to 0 in the Advance field.

When advance holiday is to be taken, register it using the Holiday shortcut in the calendar or on the payslip. The value of the liability will be 4.6 percent of the monthly salary and will be displayed on the Holiday tab in the employee list.
No holiday allowance is paid for used advance holiday. If you want to pay holiday allowance for these days, do it manually via pay codes.
Here you can see when the advance holiday pay liability is deducted from a final pay or automatically written-off after the employee has been employed for five years.
Additionally, you can perform one or more manual write-offs if you wish to write-off all or part of the advance holiday pay liability earlier than after five years. Click on the plus sign on the row Advance holiday pay liability. This action will add a new row where you can enter a manual write-off.
